About Fterno
Driving south from Nidri the coast road passes through Vlicho then quickly climbs to Fterno. The journey takes about 15 minutes It is a good road, perhaps the best on the island. This charming, unspoilt village offers the ultimate getaway destination, where visitors can be at one with the Greek way of life. Drive through the picturesque village of Fterno to the church at the top of the hill. It is here that the beautiful panoramic views of the Bay of Vlicho will take your breath away. Here also the road becomes a rough track for about 200 yards and care should be taken when driving. There are no facilities in Fterno other than two tavernas which are about a 10 minute walk from the house. These offer a very traditional service which can be quite basic. Supermarkets and bakers are at the bottom of the hill in Vlicho and require a 10 minute car drive. There are also some good seafront tavernas there. Note that Vlicho is at the bottom of the hill and unless you enjoy walking up hills it is best to take the car! Travel for a further 5 minutes and you will reach Nidri which has all facilities in abundance. It is an ideal spot for hill walking or just chilling out, Fterno is a mountain retreat you'll never want to leave. |
