About Nidri
Situated on the east coast of Lefkada and 18 k south of Lefkas Town is the bustling resort of Nidri with its ferry connections to Keffalonia, Ithaka and Maganisi.
During the summer season many boat trips are available to explore the other parts of this beautiful island and surrounding islands whose coastline are full of sheltered and secluded bays. The boats make frequent stops for swimming and snorkeling often with a beach BBQ. The islands of Skorpios (the private Onassis island) and Maganisi are a must for the first time visitor Alternatively you can hire a small motor boat and explore the coastline on your own. Perhaps dropping anchor in a small sandy cove that is inaccessible by road and enjoy your own private beach and picnic.
If you fancy something more physical why not hire a bike and explore the area. The immediate area is fairly flat and good for gentle rides and walks through the olive groves to Nidri Waterfalls or around Vlicho Bay to the church of Agia Kiriaki. For those with more energy there are good walks into the surrounding hills.
Or, for the more adventurous, there are many water sport activities. You can try snorkeling or skiing or why not experience some para-gliding behind a speedboat and enjoy the fantastic aerial view of the harbour and islands. If it's wind surfing you are after then a trip to Vassiliki ( 20 k south ) is a must as this is where the international windsurfing centre is situated.
Here on Nidri waterfront and also on the main street you will find numerous tavernas and bars, all providing a range of quality food and friendly service. There are two banks, four cash dispensing machines (ATMs) and several exchange bureau. During the summer season, dozens of supermarkets are open all day from 9.00am until about midnight. There are three chemists, one doctor's surgery open in the evenings, and a Post Office open weekday mornings. The nearest hospital with emergency medical facilities is at Lefkada Town.
Nidri is one of the main yachting destinations in the Ionian Sea. Its location on the East Coast of Lefkada means that the sea is usually calm and it is an ideal place to learn to sail. It is the assembly point for the annual regatta in September which is one of the biggest yachting event in the Mediterranean and typically attracts about 190 entries and is spectacular to watch.
