Our villa in Lefkas
After a 4 year project the house was finished in September 2007. It was designed by ourselves along with a local architect. We specifically wanted a house designed for modern living in a Greek design where we felt we could relax and enjoy ourselves far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life but close enough to civilisation to eat out and meet with friends when we wanted. It was built by a local builder whose work in garden design and use of stone is second to none.
Driving to the property along the narrow 200 metre track the spectacular views come into sight. Turning off the track onto the property there is a large car parking area to the rear of the house. Steps lead down through the garden area with its mix of flower beds built into the hillside to the front door and the upper terrace.
The house is a 3 bedroom detached property It sits high on the hillside and enjoys all day sun with its major views to the north. It has central heating throughout as well as air conditioning in all bedrooms. All windows, except the large panoramic windows, have pull down shutters and insect grill. There is a large outside area which is split into 2 main levels. The upper terrace which runs along the front of the house and the lower terrace which has the pool area.
The house's upper story is slightly larger than the lower level at the front giving a pleasant shade from the summer sun close to the house and stopping direct sunlight through its large downstairs panoramic windows, keeping it cooler in the summer. The pool area has sun all day with the upper terrace enjoying the early morning sunrise at one end and the sunset at the other.
Downstairs is an open plan lounge with wood burning fire. A dividing wall separates the spacious dining and kitchen area from the lounge. The utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and toilet is also downstairs.
The kitchen is spacious and well equipped with an electric hob and oven with extractor fan, microwave, large fridge / freezer , coffee maker, kettle etc plus all crockery and kitchen utensils means that you can if you wish cook all your meals and be fully self sufficient.
At the top of the marbled staircase is a large open area landing leading to the three bedrooms and a large central balcony which looks down to the lower terrace and pool area as well as the whole panoramic view of Vlicho Bay and the Greek mainland.
The two bedrooms situated at the front of the house enjoy views over the pool area and Vlicho Bay and have double beds, air conditioning, fitted wardrobes and a courtesy table. One has en-suite facilities, the other a separate bath, shower and toilet facility. The third bedroom had twin beds, en-suite facilities as well as air conditioning and a fitted wardrobe.
Step out the kitchen door onto the upper terrace and see more flower gardens rising to the right with steps leading up to the car parking area. A small flower bed compliments the front of the terrace along its length.
Stepping down the stone stairway to the lower terrace with its flowerbeds and large patio area round the 8.5m by 4.5m infinity pool which has a depth from 1.1m to 1.8m Where possible the builders have used the existing hillside rocks in the design of the terracing and patios as can be seen with the pool side shower utilising a large rock. Additional flower beds have been built here and in future years will be quite splendid when the many climbing plants become established.
There are patio table and chairs on both terraces as well as sun loungers and umbrellas round the pool. A large portable gas barbeque is provided.
